An off-duty cop takes out two robbers and then dies shortly after getting shot, all caught on tape! Two robbers vs a large group of people, ask to be taken down. Was it necessary for him to intervene? Personally, I think he should have intervened when he could not do otherwise, or when he was certain of his case.
Some small points (prevention too much text):
We can learn from both parties, its just a matter of knowing how to filter/use knowledge for your own purpose.
Robbers:
– ‘Distraction by greed’ is something to recognize within a robbery. It’s a structural element. Only the ‘real professionals’ hold their guard up all the time.
– The robber runs towards a predicted/potential line of fire / he had a dominant position, but it looks like the stress was too much for him.
– Two robbers against a large group – asking to be caught for different reasons. In the end… the robbers were no good friends after all!
Off-duty cop:
– He ensures his aim by getting closer – first two situations. He doesn’t want to hit innocent bystanders in this crowdy place.
– One bullet is not immediately death/out of the fight…he had to make sure! Turning your back, while you are not sure that the threat isn’t a threat, is a big mistake. More shots were recommendable and (maybe) a different position after. This was the main point that cost him his life.
– Hitting a moving target / with a small caliber weapon / with one hand using a ‘dynamic aim’ / while being wounded, is not an easy task. He even neutralizes the target at once.
Last important point – this cop gave his life (Didn’t Have To)– much respect for this protector.
